Endless Shifts, Trending Topics and Who Owns the S&P 500
Published: 2026-10-05
Another week, another roundup. Galazon is getting an Endless Mode, Your News Headlines now sorts the news into topics on both the website and the app, Big Whale Hunting has a new page on the investment firms that own the S&P 500, and Issue Infinity is starting to feel like a proper site again. Here's what changed.
Galazon: Endless Mode and earning your next warehouse
Most of my time went on Galazon. The big addition is Endless Mode on PC. Once you've made it through a warehouse in the main campaign, it's unlocked for Endless Mode. A new screen on the start menu shows each warehouse as a little green-terminal map of its layout, along with its own top scores. In an endless run every hazard and special crate is in play from the start, there are no loans or quarterly reviews to worry about, and the crate factories are free. You keep going until a truck's timer runs out, and then you find out where you placed on that warehouse's high score table.
The campaign changed too. Moving to the next warehouse used to happen automatically at a set point. Now you have to earn it: you need to survive long enough in your current warehouse and have enough cash left after paying your loan, and the move itself costs you. If you can't afford it, you stay put and try again next quarter. Each move also saves a checkpoint, so if things go badly in the new warehouse you can restart from the beginning of it instead of from scratch.
A few smaller things: when your run ends, you now get a Final Performance Review in the same style as the quarterly reviews, with a graph of your cash over the whole run and a new "Time Served" line. Declining the emergency loan, which ends the game, now asks if you're sure first. And the boss and Bob the engineer have some new lines, mostly about muffins in the break room that are for display only and wellbeing events that keep getting cancelled.
I'm working towards a Steam release, so I've paused the free builds on itch.io for now. All of this will be in the game when it lands on Steam.
In the meantime, I've put some gameplay footage up on YouTube so you can see it in action:
Your News Headlines: topics everywhere
Your News Headlines got a lot of attention this week. Headlines are tagged with the people, places and organisations they mention, and the site now has a "Today's Trending Topics" row. I changed how trending topics works so it picks topics that are getting much more coverage than usual, rather than the ones that are always busy. That means a sudden story rises to the top instead of the same few names every day.
Topics are now in the Android app as well. Every headline shows its topics, you can tap one to see every headline about it going back through the whole archive, and trending topics sit at the top of the front page. It's all in version 1.4 of the Android app, which is out now.
I also made topic pages more complete. If a story is tagged with a topic, every outlet's version of that story now shows up on the topic page, even when one outlet's headline was worded in a way the tagger missed. While a story is developing, new headlines that mention its topic get picked up too. Outside of topics, the website now has a dark mode, headline pages have readable links with the headline in them, and I fixed a bug that had quietly stopped a couple of news sources from appearing at all.
Big Whale Hunting: the holders page
Last time I added the top institutional holders of each company to Big Whale Hunting. This week I turned that around with a new holders page. It lists the 200 or so biggest investment firms holding S&P 500 stocks and shows how many of the 500 companies each one holds, its average stake, where it owns 5% or more and what its holdings are worth. Each firm also gets an overall "share of the S&P 500". It's the same story as before: Vanguard comes first with about 11%, then BlackRock with about 9% and State Street with about 5%. You can click any company in a firm's list to jump straight to it.
Issue Infinity keeps improving
Issue Infinity, the random comic cover site I brought back last week, now has a page for every series that shows all of its covers in a grid. On an issue page you can jump to the previous or next issue in the same series. Covers are bigger on desktop, and some of the old site's artwork is back, including the original logo and arrow buttons. The site is also easier for search engines to find now. That should eventually replace the old "On Indefinite Hiatus" notice that Google still shows.
Diende gets lighter
The Diende Android app is now about a quarter smaller to download, thanks to turning on Android's built-in code optimisation.
That's it for this week. Thanks for reading.
