Crate Bombs, Retirement and Every S&P 500 Company as a Bubble

Published: 2026-10-10

Galazon now has an ending, plus two new warehouses and a few new ways to ruin your shift. Your News Headlines has pictures again, Diende has search, Big Whale Hunting has a new chart of the whole S&P 500, and Issue Infinity has a page for every comic publisher. Here's what changed this week.

Galazon: new warehouses, crate bombs and a way to retire

Once again most of my time went on Galazon. The PC campaign now has six warehouses. Warehouse 4 adds a loading bay docked below the floor instead of beside it, so you have to think about where trucks are coming from. The new Warehouse 5 has one huge, oddly shaped bay that takes thirteen crates, next to a small one. And Warehouse 6 is a frantic one with five tiny bays where every truck only waits twenty seconds. Warehouses 2 and 3 also now give every truck a fixed one-minute timer, which makes them easier to plan around.

Until now there was no way to actually finish the campaign. Now you can retire. Once you've served enough quarters in the last warehouse, paid off your loan and still have money in the bank, your quarterly review lets you leave on your own terms. The manager comments track how close you are, and they'll tell you to pay off your loan first if that's what's stopping you.

The later warehouses also have crate bombs. Every so often a random crate on the floor gets armed, with a five-second countdown and a pulsing red frame. Throw it in the crate destroyer before it goes off. While a bomb is ticking, no asteroids or debris will hit you, so you only have one disaster to deal with at a time.

Some smaller things: the low-funds warning now comes from the HR bot, stays on screen while you're short of cash and clears itself once you've recovered. The board is laid out so it no longer slides under the message panel or the top bar on any screen size. Quarterly reviews with a lot to say now shrink to fit, so the Accept button never covers the manager's comments.

Your News Headlines: pictures, France 24 and a blog

I found out that Your News Headlines hadn't shown a single headline image in months. A setting got lost when I moved the part that collects the news to a new server last year. That's fixed, and BBC stories have images now too. I also added France 24 as a news source, without its short video clips, which mostly repeat articles already in the feed. Some outlets start their headlines with emoji, like a red dot for breaking news. Those are now stripped out so the list looks consistent.

Topic pages were mixing today's headlines with ones from months ago, with no easy way to tell them apart. Now they're grouped under dividers like Today, Yesterday, This week and then month by month, and each date is coloured by how recent it is. The site also has a blog. The first post is about why I built it in the first place.

Diende: search, avatars and a faster start

Diende picks something at random from a list for you, and if you have a lot of saved lists, finding the right one was getting slow. Now you can search your saved lists by name or by anything in them. Lists that match because of an item show which items matched. Search works on the website and in the Android app.

Every item in a list now has a small coloured letter avatar, and saved lists get a squarer, more muted version of their own. The colour comes from the text, so the same item always gets the same colour. It makes long lists much easier to scan.

Lists also load faster. The first visit after a quiet spell could take a couple of seconds with nothing on screen. The server is now kept warm, and the site shows a spinner instead of a blank "Untitled List" while it loads. Diende also has a blog. The first post is the story of the die that started it.

Big Whale Hunting: the whole market in bubbles

Big Whale Hunting has a new market cap page. It shows every S&P 500 company as a bubble sized by its value and coloured by sector, so you can see at a glance how much of the index a handful of giants take up. A size key adjusts as you zoom. Behind the scenes I've also been collecting weekly market cap figures going back to 2009, along with when every company joined or left the S&P 500 since 1996. Nothing on the site uses that yet, but there's something I want to build with it.

Issue Infinity: publishers

Issue Infinity has a new publishers page. Marvel and DC get big logo tiles at the top. Image, Dark Horse, IDW, BOOM! and the other well-known publishers get smaller tiles, and the rest are listed below. Under each one you'll find all of its series. Issue and series pages now link to their publisher too. Series are also sorted the way a comic shop would sort them, so "The Kingdom" goes under K rather than T.

That's it for this week. Thanks for reading.
