Putting Faces to the S&P 500's Directors
Published: 2026-11-07
This week Big Whale Hunting got photos and bios for its company directors, along with a new look. Galazon's mobile version got a third warehouse, Your News Headlines sorts its topics by date in the Android app, Diende added a little drama to picking, and Issue Infinity got more comics.
Big Whale Hunting: photos, bios and a new look
The directors page on Big Whale Hunting used to be just names in a table. Now 2,699 of the 9,402 people listed have a photo, and everyone else gets the whale logo. About 2,900 have a short bio, which you can read by opening an About panel on their row, and some have links to their Wikipedia and LinkedIn pages. Most of the photos and bios come from the proxy statements companies publish each year. Matching photos to names is automated, so a few faces are probably wrong. If you spot one, please let me know.
The whole site also got a cleaner design. The homepage now has cards with a small screenshot of each chart, and a new tagline: "500 companies. Trillions of dollars. Millions of employees. Explore the people, money and connections behind America's biggest businesses." The company table moved to its own page, next to the directors and holders tables, which now share the same style.
On the market cap timeline, every company's bubble now stays in the same place as the years play, growing and shrinking instead of jumping around. It's much easier to follow a single company that way. I also fixed Visa, which disappeared from the timeline after 2011 because of the unusual way it reports its share classes. Its history now runs from when it joined the S&P 500 in 2009 up to today. Finally, I refreshed all the data, so recent additions to the index such as Bloom Energy, Illumina and Twilio are in.
Galazon: Warehouse 3 comes to mobile
The mobile version of Galazon has a third warehouse. It's tall and narrow, with two big loading bays on the left and a smaller one above the floor, where trucks drop down from the top of the screen. That top bay also starts with shorter timers than the others, so it keeps you on your toes. You unlock it by reaching Ƶ2,000 in a Warehouse 2 run. The new version is out on Google Play.
Having different bay sizes in one warehouse caused a new problem: a truck could be sent for gold crates it could never fill, and a late truck ends your run on mobile. Gold now waits for a bay of the right size. I also fixed a bug where getting promoted while dropping a crate could leave a ghost crate on the floor. Promotions now wait for a quiet moment.
On PC, the quarterly and final performance reviews now have the green retro computer terminal look. The "Accountability" score in the quarterly review now also goes by "Believability" or "Alignment", chosen at random each time. As before, the percentage is random and has no effect on anything, which feels about right for a performance review.
Your News Headlines: topics by date
The Android app for Your News Headlines now groups a topic's headlines under Today, Yesterday, This week and so on, as the website does, so today's news no longer runs straight into stories from months ago. Sharing a headline from the app now sends it in quotes followed by the link.
On the website, USA and UK no longer appear in trending topics. They're attached to so many stories that they were always there and told you very little. Link previews for a headline now use the story's news photo when it has one, and the tagging that works out which people and places a headline is about has improved.
Diende: a bit of suspense
When you hit Pick Next on Diende, on the web or in the Android app, the logo now spins for a moment before your pick is revealed. If you've asked your device to reduce motion, it gently pulses instead. On the web there's also a new Duplicate button, which makes a private copy of the saved list you have open, with a clean pick history.
Issue Infinity: more comics
Issue Infinity got more comics this week, and every publisher now has its own page, with all of its series shown as image tiles. You can browse them from the publishers page.
That's it for this week. Thanks for reading.
